A NEW CHAPTER:As most of you know, Andrea and I have spent the past 5+ years building out a portfolio of rental properties across 3 states. It started as an experiment, but quickly became a powerful identity shift for each of us, as we observed the impact it had on our family’s future. We fell in love with the process of learning about real estate and building a business that we could mold around the vision we had for our family. But building personal wealth was never meant to be the full story. We have always had a desire to connect our personal investing journey to causes that can have meaningful positive impact on the people & communities around us.One such cause that resonates with both of us on a deep, personal level is senior care. Specifically memory care.In particular, Andrea’s Grandparents and her Father all suffered from long, drawn out memory-related illnesses that put them in facilities for the final years of their lives. These facilities were understaffed, lacked character, and certainly didn’t feel like home. It was a difficult thing to watch, especially as a young person who feels powerless to do anything about it.Worse yet, the response times and quality of care were mediocre at best, and there were several instances of neglect, one of which even led to the early passing of her Father…Nobody should have to go through that. While we can’t change the past, we CAN be a small part of the solution for others who don’t want to see their loved ones go through the same thing. So here’s what we’re going to do about it.We are embarking on a mission to build 5 Memory Care Mansions in the next 5 years. What is a Memory Care Mansion?A Memory Care Mansion is a 16-bedroom luxury home that takes care of seniors at the end of life, specializing in memory care services. We will offer all the amenities of a large facility but in the comfort of a more intimate 10,000 sq ft custom designed mansion. We will offer our residents a private bedroom and bathroom, an on-call nurse, a private chef, and a salon. Our MCM will be competitive with pricing in comparison to the local high-end big box facilities.A place you can be proud to send your loved one.Why now? With 10,000 people turning 65 every single day across the country, the need for quality senior care is going increase dramatically over the coming decades. The U.S. is currently experiencing a significant shortage of assisted living beds. It is projected that there will be a deficit of 1.3 million beds by 2029.Surveys overwhelmingly indicate that many seniors prefer to live in a home-like environment rather than large, institutional settings. The Road AheadWe are partnering with a mentor & advisory group that pioneered this specific niche within the RAL-space. He and his team will guide us through the whole process from top-to-bottom, as we leverage their proven construction, architectural, & operational models that they’ve successfully applied across the country. Our current target is to have the first home open by the end of 2025, with additional homes coming online between 2026 - 2030.We will be sharing this journey as we go along, and will have an investor presentation soon for anyone interested in getting involved. If you're interested in learning more, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at managers@aka-living.com for more information.
